About Image Compressor

Image Compressor is a free online tool that reduces image file sizes using the Canvas API built into your browser. You can adjust the quality level from 10% to 100% and choose from JPEG, PNG, or WebP output formats to find the best balance between file size and visual quality.

All compression happens entirely client-side — your images are never uploaded to any server. This makes it safe to compress sensitive or private images without worrying about data privacy.

How to Use

Upload an image — Drag and drop an image onto the upload area, or click to select a file from your device (max 50MB).
Adjust quality — Use the quality slider (10%–100%) to control compression level. Lower values produce smaller files.
Choose output format — Select JPEG, PNG, or WebP as the output format. WebP generally offers the best compression ratio.
Compare sizes — Review the original and compressed file sizes along with the reduction percentage.
Download — Click the download button to save the compressed image to your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does compression reduce image quality?

It depends on the quality setting. At 80% quality (the default), most images look virtually identical to the original while being significantly smaller. You can preview the compressed result before downloading to check quality.

Q: Which output format gives the smallest file size?

WebP typically produces the smallest files at equivalent quality, followed by JPEG. PNG uses lossless compression and usually results in larger files, but preserves exact pixel data and transparency.

Q: Is there a file size limit?

The maximum file size is 50MB. Since all processing happens in your browser, very large images may take a moment to process depending on your device performance.
